Kennel cough policy

At Ginger and Tails, the health and safety of all dogs in my walking, sitting, and visit services is my top priority. To minimise the risk of kennel cough spreading among dogs, I have implemented the following policy:

Post-vaccine waiting period: As the kennel cough vaccine contains a live virus, I require that all dogs wait at least 7 days after receiving the vaccine before participating in any dog walking, dog sitting, or home visit services.

Recovery from kennel cough: If your dog has had kennel cough, please ensure you wait at least 14 days after all symptoms have cleared before allowing them to resume walks, visits, or dog sitting services.

Dog sitting and kennel cough/contagious illnesses

Due to the highly contagious nature of kennel cough, I am unable to offer dog sitting or home visit services to any dogs currently showing symptoms or recovering from the illness. Please ensure you bear this in mind so that you can arrange appropriate cover, particularly if you have a sit pre-booked. This also applies to other contagious illnesses (for example Giardia, MRSP, Leptospirosis etc).

REFUND POLICY

I have a duty of care to protect the health of all dogs in my care. This includes taking precautions around transmissible illnesses such as kennel cough.

If a dog shows symptoms of kennel cough or another contagious illness before a sit:

Unfortunately, I will be unable to proceed with the booking to avoid the risk of transmission to other dogs. I completely understand that illness can occur unexpectedly, and that this may be outside of your control.

In the event of cancellation due to symptoms:

  • A partial refund may be offered, depending on the notice period given and the length of the booking.
  • Where possible, I will also offer to transfer part of the payment to a future booking (valid for 6 months, excluding May to September and subject to availability).
  • Each situation will be handled on a case-by-case basis, balancing fairness to you as the client with the loss of income and the impact on my ability to rebook that time.

Dogs must be symptom-free for at least 14 days before services can resume. This is based on veterinary guidance to ensure the safety of all dogs in my care.

If kennel cough or another contagious illness develops during a sit:

The emergency contact will be required to take over care as soon as possible. No refund will be offered for the remainder of the sit, as I will be unable to accept other dogs during this time and the booking time has already been committed. I will of course provide updates and support to help ensure a smooth transition for your dog.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping to keep all our furry friends safe and healthy.
