How I keep your pets safe

Your pet’s safety and wellbeing is my absolute priority. I carry out risk assessments across all of my services – dog walking, pet sitting, and pet visits – and have measures in place to reduce any risks to your pets, your property, and to myself.

Below is a summary of the key areas I consider and how I manage them:

Pet safety

  • 🐾 I meet every pet before taking on care to understand their personality, behaviour, and individual needs.
  • 🐾 I never let dogs off lead unless we’ve discussed and agreed it’s safe to do so.
  • 🐾 Reactive, anxious, or nervous dogs are walked solo in quiet areas to avoid unnecessary stress.
  • 🐾 I monitor all pets for signs of illness, injury or discomfort and keep you informed straight away.
  • 🐾 I follow clear procedures if your pet is ever injured or goes missing – but rest assured, this is extremely rare.

Your home and property

  • 🏠 Keys are stored securely and labelled only with the pet’s name, with access codes (if needed) noted securely.
  • 🏠 I never allow anyone into your home unless pre-approved by you.
  • 🏠 I take care to avoid any damage and always follow any house rules you’ve shared.
  • 🏠 I am fully insured and DBS checked for your peace of mind.

Medication and special needs

  • 📋 I follow written instructions for any medication and confirm any changes with you directly.
  • 📋 I only give medication I’m confident and competent in administering, and I always double-check doses.
  • 📋 If I ever have concerns or questions, I’ll contact you or your vet right away.

Walks, weather and travel

  • ☀️ I check the weather daily and adapt walk times and routes to keep your dog safe and comfortable.
  • ☀️ Walks are shortened or rescheduled in extreme conditions.
  • ☀️ I always carry water in warmer weather and avoid walking dogs during the hottest part of the day.
  • ☀️ I have a hot weather policy which I strictly adhere to.
  • ☀️ I operate locally to reduce travel time and always allow for traffic or delays.

Allergies and food

  • 🧼 I ask about any allergies or intolerances at our initial meet and greet.
  • 🧼 I only use treats, food, and cleaning products that are approved by you or designed for sensitive pets.
  • 🧼 I’ll let you know if your pet’s eating habits change or if I notice anything unusual.
